Add to Our Playlist of the Greatest Songs About Places!

Samsonite Man by Fashawn

Love the song Arkansas, by Damien Jurado.

Also not about a specific place in America, but Childish Gambino’s This is America was on my playlist for the last road trip.

The band Europe has a great instrumental called Vasastan, which is a suburb of Stockholm. This song makes me feel nostalgic for a place I’ve never been (YET!)

Barcelona by Queen is pretty choice

“I’ve Been Everywhere” done by Hank Snow, Johnny Cash and other assorted artists. A favorite drag queen used to do this song on stage and always really got the crowd going!

The Beatles, Rocky Raccoon.
“Now somewhere in the Black Mountain Hills of South Dakota there lived a young boy named Rocky Raccoon…”

Kashmir, by Led Zeppelin

I found this band DRAGON when I lived in New Zealand and love the song April Sun in Cuba. I live in Florida USA now and this song seems appropriate considering the new lax travel to Cuba.

On a broader note.
This is a playlist my daughter and I made when we planned a six week road trip across the USA. This is the first draft, I don’t have a written list of the final list, it is much longer.

Great List John, I’ve added some of your list to my master road trip list. Thanks!

Here’s my country and bluegrass (and a few other things) input…
Battle of New Orleans - Johnny Horton
I’ve been everywhere man - Johnny Cash
Starwood in Aspen - John Denver
Rocky Mountain High - John Denver
Route 66 - Chuck Berry
North to Alaska - Johnny Horton
Going back to Old Kentucky - The lonesome Pine Fiddlers
Wanted Man - Johnny Cash
Cajun Born - Johnny Cash
Among many others…

Rocket Man - (I think it’s Going to Be a Long Long Time) - Elton John

Sheila Majid - Antara Anyer dan Jakarta

Written by an Indonesian Oddie Agam and popularised by Malaysian jazz queen Sheila Majid this song celebrates Pantai Anyer, a beach resort in Indonesia. Incidentally Pantai Anyer suffered in the tsunami at the end of 2018

Kiss - Detroit Rock City
A classic rock staple from the band that fuelled my teenage years…

Gonna be a dental floss tycoon

Ultravox - Vienna
Wasn’t a great fan of the 80s electronic pop, but this was special

Two real oldies about my favorite place, Coney Island: “Meet Me Down at Luna, Lena” by Billy Murray (1905) and “Coming Home from Coney Island” by Ada Jones and Len Spencer (1906).

Poetic Ammo - Kuala Lumpur
This is the city I live in now… we call it by its initials KL

Sudirman - Chow Kit Road
One of the busiest areas of Kuala Lumpur contains a morning wet market, which transforms into a roadside night market
