Locals and practitioners of alternative medicine hail Baleni salt for its curative properties, and because it is naturally processed and organic.

I really need to point out that salt is not “organic”. Chemically, something is organic if it contains carbon, which salt most certainly does not.

You’re right in the context of chemistry, but the word has taken on a decidedly different meaning outside of that context. Frustratingly, there’s not really a precise definition of “organic” in the context of food production, but it certainly isn’t centered around whether it contains carbon.

Similarly, it bugs me when people say sodium when they mean plain old salt. This is another instance of a word meaning something else in a different context.
