Blue Lagoon of Buxton

Welcome to the Atlas Obscura Community discussion of Blue Lagoon of Buxton in Derbyshire, England. Ask questions or share travel tips, experiences, pictures, or general comments with the community. For the story behind this place, check out the Atlas Obscura entry:

Most quarries don’t flood after abandonment. They are abandoned when the Water comes in faster than they can pump it out.

A somewhat related attractive nuisance has made a splash (!) on Instagram. This one is The Siberian Maldives, a coal ash pit outside Novosibirsk that will strip the skin from your feet.

I’m not sure of the exact location, but here’s an article from The Guardian UK about it.

Novosibirsk does have a very nice lake full of azure water nearby called Lake Chany (Ozero Chany) but that’s freshwater.

Been to Buxton many times but never seen this blue lagoon I am sure it’s beautiful…

I’ll have to go again one day
