11/23/15 - Stopped through on a cross-country drive. Thanks to the weekday and time of year we had it all to ourselves, which was fantastic. Some aspects were inaccessible due to snow (or just seasonal closure perhaps?), and we would love to return to see them.

Craters of the Moon Nat Monument is really an interesting and amazing place and each season changes everything. The biggest mistake people make is stopping for a short while. You can take a drive through with stops at points of interest but to appreciate it fully a minimum of 1 full day with hikes,
and even better a 2 day visit and then you will always be glad you visited and and promise you will return one day !

Update, 05/21/20 - I was back to hit the high point of Minidoka County. This took me through the far southwestern and western corners of the Preserve. All of this is isolated country and gorgeous to have all to oneself. Bear Den Butte, the county high point, while not itself on lava flows, is surrounded by them and offers a gorgeous view of the Sawtooths, the Monument, and more.
