This sculpture is a replica of a Honduras mahogany,Chippendale block front, four drawer bureau. The original was made by John Townsend of Newport, Rhode Island in 1790.

Townsend’s design and execution is considered by most antiquarians to be the epitome of the American Chippendale style.
