There are recipes all over the Ontrawebs for this. They’re all pretty similar. It’s a lot like any other milk custard with a bit more spice. Quite good and pretty easy. I made it for Pi Day.

Had this many times in South Africa when my parents lived there. Everyone had their own family recipe. I don’t remember any having very much spice. When growing up, little milk tarts or custard tarts were given to the sick or elderly because they were easy to digest.

I have my own spin on this endearing traditional sweet treat, layering the melktert mixture between pancakes & topped with some extra cinnamon. Cut into slices with some heavy cream & enjoy with an Amarula-coffee!
