Ozymandias on the Plains

I visited Ozymandias on the Plains last week. It was a short visit but interesting. According to the Texas Historical Marker, when first installed, the legs, and the head described by Shelley, were historically accurate. The head was damaged by vandals after a local sports event. The head is in the Amarillo Museum of Natural History.

The last lines from Sheeley’s poem seem appropriate:

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
