Very interesting! Why was it done this way? Was it because there was no place to bury them on the island? Or just so the living nuns could contemplate the shortness of life? What did they do with the liquids?


My understanding (I’ve been to the Castello Aragonese) it was to try to keep the nuns from getting too attached to this life (and their bodies) by bringing the eventual fate of those bodies into sharper relief.


The liquids were caught under the seat…yewwwwwh… :no_mouth:
