I don’t remember ever seeing teaberry ice cream in eastern PA, but it’s my (strange) childhood favorite saltwater taffy flavor and teaberry taffy is readily found at the Jersey Shore.

I had totally forgotten about Teaberry Ice Cream. I can’t recall what vendor used to carry it but we had it in Eastern Massachusetts in the '80s and '90s, during the great resurgence of gourmet ice cream.

I’ll bet it was Emack & Bolio’s, and probably Herrell’s. (Steve’s Ice Cream was started by Steve Herrell, who sold to a big company and started Herrell’s.) (Emack and Bolio were two homeless guys that got an ice cream boutique named after them.)

Do you happen to know the botanical name for the teaberry plant?

Gibby’s Ice Cream in Levittown, PA has teaberry in the summer. I’m going over to get some this afternoon!

Eastern teaberry is called Gaultheria procumbens. Cheers.
