The Brothels of Pompeii

Welcome to the Atlas Obscura Community discussion of The Brothels of Pompeii in Pompei, Italy. Ask questions or share travel tips, experiences, pictures, or general comments with the community. For the story behind this place, check out the Atlas Obscura entry:

The article mentions “petrified bodies.” There are no petrified bodies in any of the cities of Vesuvius: none, absolutely zilch, nada. There are skeletal remains; there are also plaster casts made from filling the cavities left by bodied that have decomposed (the bones remain in the plaster). No petrification.

Hey @maximevero! Thanks for reaching out, but I’m not seeing the mention of petrified in the entry. I’m happy to help correct the inaccuracy, but can you tell me where you’re seeing the petrification reference?
