The Hundred Caves of Yoshimi

Welcome to the Atlas Obscura Community discussion of The Hundred Caves of Yoshimi in Japan. Ask questions or share travel tips, experiences, pictures, or general comments with the community. For the story behind this place, check out the Atlas Obscura entry:

As of March 2020, the factory cave is closed, and the staff doesn’t know when or if it will ever open again. The one cave with the glowing moss is fenced off–you can look through the fence, but as the part you can see is lit up by the daylight behind you, and the place is closed at night, you won’t see any glow. One of the stairways up the rock face is permanently closed as is an area at the top of the other. I’d be happy to pay 800 yen entrance fee if it would contribute to upkeep this place so desperately needs. To be honest, as it is now, the place is a dud–there isn’t much to see here. Iwamuro Kannon, right by the entrance to the parking lot, is small but quite nice.
