Things to see in DR

A few years ago, on a visit to the Dominican Republic, we enjoyed a visit to La Isabela, the first permanent settlement founded by Christopher Columbus in the New World. In the same general area, we visited the manatee sanctuary at Santuario de Mamíferos Marinos de Estero Hondo, 57000, Dominican Republic. Neither of these sites is developed to a high standard and the only language is Spanish, but still fascinating!
Does anyone have any suggestions for cultural or natural explorations on our next visit to the DR?
