Your first submitted place?

I know that some people only post one thing, but others have lots. What’s your first place?
Mine is Einstein’s Sink, a spot that’s still one of my favourites. (I’ll even be publishing a research paper on it soon)

Sounds like that paper will be a fascinating read.

This was the first place I submitted. A right wing death squad sent by Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet detonated a car bomb and killed socialist economist Orlando Letelier and his American passenger as they were driving to work in a Washington DC traffic circle. The CIA helped cover up Pinochet’s involvement in the assassination because he was an ally of the United States, and leaked and declassified documents that have come out since then have strongly hinted to the possibility that the CIA knew about the planned assassination by foreign agents on US soil in advance and chose to let it happen.

This decrepit former gas station off Route 66 has quite the story!

Sorry for the unintentional quote and response above me.

My first place of eight (and I really should add to that) was the Wall of Alassio - a ceramic star-studded walk of fame by the Italian seaside…

This is an awesome thread. I can’t remember exactly what my first place entered was (I’ve added over 500!), but I know one of my early favorites that I really felt like was something so incredible and amazing that I’d never forget it, was Gustave Eiffel’s Secret Apartment:

Oh! You just have to put the link on a separate line and it should create a one box.

Many thanks.

What are submitted places?

It’s where a person submits a post to Atlas Obscura about an unusual or obscure place they’ve visited; the person would usually have photos to share of that place and write interesting info for people to get all excited about.
If you scroll down from the home page, at the bottom you’ll see ‘Add a Place’ this is where you would submit your post. I believe all submissions go through an acceptance process.

This was mine:

It’s in my home town. In middle school we watched a documentary about him. I love when small towns take pride in things like this!

(very recent, which is sort of surprising for as long as I’ve been around AO).
